DJ Angelo in Marrakech

This weeks Friday Five starts with a return to UK Turntabalist DJ Angelo as he recounts his latest gig at the Sun Festival in Marrakech. When asked about his trip to Africa, DJ Angelo cited that his two most used items were his “flat-cap and sunscreen”. So all you festival goers take note; play it safe this summer and be well equipped with protection from the sun. Enough of the lecture, now enjoy the show.

If you are influenced by the packaging of your grooming products (which our current survey shows that most of you aren’t), you will be interested to hear that US grooming brand Every Man Jack has had an image overhaul. Pictured above is their Citrus ‘Six Pack’ Kit which includes a Daily Shampoo, Body Wash, Body Bars, Face Wash, Shave Cream, Face Lotion, and an Every Man Jack toiletry bag.

What does a modern gentleman read?

the-city-of-abacus-v-v-brown-david-allain

Trick question; the modern gentleman reads everything and anything that serves to enhance their knowledge, challenge their thinking, or in a more likely scenario, help them to relax. Today we have electronic reading tools such as the Kindle, iPad and many niche magazines to cater for every slant of interest. However let us not forget the graphic novel; the source of some of the most challenging literature of our generation. I recently read The City of Abacus – Volume One, brain child of enigmatic singer-songwriter V V Brown, David Allain and Emma Price. A fry cry from the Spiderman comics of my youth; be prepared for a tale of surprise, rejection, incest, love, with more than a hint of politics and mystery. If you’re really struggling to put down your iPad don’t worry, The City of Abacus can be downloaded for iPad/iPhone from iTunes. This season, Comics are the new black.

shave-sexy-barbarella-king-of-shaves

There has been plenty of  drama this week surrounding the unveiling of the Shave Sexy video (rightly so I might add), but as Barbarella X leaves us and heads back to New York, King of Shaves have given you the opportunity to follow suit.  In their latest competition, King of Shaves have offered to fly the winner and a friend to New York, where you’ll meet Barbarella X and enjoy an amazing wet shave at the renowned Paul Mole Barber Shop on Lexington Avenue. Plus they’ll also throw in £500 spending money. You’ll be a winner all-round.

How far can your get on a tank of fuel…?

ds3-ecomedy-tour-dan-adams-christian-ancliff

These guys reckon they can get from London to Edinburgh, but then again, they are comedians. Dan Adams and Christian Ancliff are attempting to gig all the way from London to Edinburgh – a journey of over 500 miles – all on a single tank of fuel using a Citroën’s DS3. The Citroën DS3 Ecomedy Tour will see the two stand-ups put in a performance each night during the tour, playing in London, Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon, Manchester and Glasgow before reaching Edinburgh in time for the start of their Fringe run.  The DS3 Ecomedy Tour runs from 1st to 6th August and is supporting Oxford-based hospice, Helen & Douglas House. With all Citroen’s technology, I wonder how many clowns they can fit into this car? Two is a good start…
