Friday Five: Moncler x Pharrell, Jaguar XKR 75, New look Baxter, Write your Future & Mr Lippie
A New Classic – Jaguar XKR 75
The project was instigated by the new Jaguar Land Rover’s CEO, Dr Ralf Speth, when he challenged the Jaguar engineering team to construct an XKR to celebrate Jaguar’s 75th anniversary, the result is the new XKR 75 which will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 2.
Mike O’Driscoll, managing director, Jaguar Cars, said “The XKR 75 will provide owners with exclusivity, excitement and a hint of Jaguar’s great heritage. This is a fitting way to celebrate the sporting credentials of the XK marque in the 75th year of the Jaguar name“.
Jaguar engineers increased the power and torque of the acclaimed 5.0-litre resulting in the XKR 75’s 0—60mph (100km/h) is reduced from 4.6 to 4.4 seconds compared to the standard XKR.
“We conceived the XR 75 as a sports car with a duality of character that makes it perfectly suited to driving across Europe to the Nurburgring, completing some very fast laps, and then driving home again”, added Mike Cross, Chief Engineer Vehicle Integrity.
Write the Future – Part 2
Following on from Nike’s successful “Write the Future” advert, the campaign continues with a chance for you to write the future for a player of your choice, and have it displayed high above downtown Johannesburg on one of the city’s most iconic buildings, the Life Center. Create your personal message through Facebook.com/nikefootball, Twitter, Facebook, Mxit (South Africa) and QQ (China) to over 50 of Nike’s athletes from around the world. Up to 100 headlines are then selected each night and transformed into digital player animations that are projected across Johannesburg. If you are lucky enough to have your message selected you receive a personalised notification showing you a picture of the headline and the animation created from it. Magnificent.
Nike Inc. President and CEO Mark Parker said:
“We are excited to deliver yet another compelling way to engage and inspire fans around the world and bring them even closer to their heroes”
We submitted the Caption “Ape or Gentleman..?” with Wayne Rooney as our player of choice. Needless to say, we are yet to receive our notification from Nike.
Pharrel Williams x Moncler
What do you get when you combine a modern gentleman with one of Ape to Gentleman’s favourite brands? The answer is the Pharrell Williams x Moncler collection which launched at Colette in Paris last night. The collection includes a “pacifist bulletproof vest”, Forest print pieces inspired by Keita Sugiura’s work, with quilted jackets made of recycled plastic.
Baxter of California gets a facelift…
Ape to Gentleman have always got time for brands that are prepared to move with the times, and Baxter of California have done exactly that. In response to customer feedback, they have redeveloped their range to have easier to read labels, and laminate tubing to reduce product wastage. Good thinking Baxter.
