The Staircase of Books…

I’m pretty sure this is not quite what the writers had in mind when they put pen to paper creating their masterpieces, but even the most doleful author would leak a smile at the ingenuity of this storage method. London Architects Levitate, who specialise in developing sustainable architecture, developed this book/staircase with a view to saving space. Amazon’s Kindle lovers may balk at wasted space when you could have the entire library on one device, not so the traditionalists; truly a book lover’s idea of a stairway to heaven.

Originally designed as a space saving mechanism, its undoubted originality and modern appeal could see such fixtures become more commonplace in modern architecture.

  1. A beautiful oak staircase making use of accessing an upper floor in limited space, generally referred to as alternating steps or paddle staircases…. looks almost impossible to keep clean though!
