For the gentlemen amongst us who prefer to keep their torsos (and beyond) hair free, there is a new tool on the block. Known as Inhibitif – it touts itself as the pain-free alternative to waxing and expensive laser treatments.

A highly-concentrated serum, Inhibitif helps reduce the apparent prominence and density of body hair, minimising the need for hair removal in 8 weeks.

Entering the market as an alternative competitor to tried-and-tested temporary methods like shaving, waxing and creams, but also to long-term, laser or IPL hair removal treatments. And the painless solution is a fraction of the price – at only £29.99/ 250ml from Boots.

Tom Heinar, Cosmetic Science Advisor at Deciem, the brand umbrella behind Inhibitif, commented:

“Inhibitif targets the hair follicle directly to slow down the apparent growth rate and density of unwanted hair; as a result, many hairs seem to never grow while using Inhibitif, and many hairs seem to grow to a lesser degree. This action on hair cycle reduces the apparent amount of hairs and impairs overall hair quality, thus drastically minimising the need for hair removal in weeks.”

We are searching for a hairy Ape to test this solution, and will report back shortly with our findings. Has anyone tried Inhibitif? If so, please leave your comments below.

Not been brave enough to try it yet but would love to know if it works! Products like veet which actually remove the hair chemically always seem to leave my sensitive skin with a rash.

  • Ape to Gentleman

Thanks Leo – will let you know how we get on.

  • W_One

I’m just starting it now, I’ll report back ;-)

  • Ape to Gentleman

Please do. Would be great to hear any feedback.

Gorilla here. I’ve been using this for 3 weeks.
    Upper arms, shoulders and back.
The instructions that come with it aren’t very clear… says twice a day after shaving or waxing. I’m assuming that means I don’t have to shave or wax twice a day.

First week, I shaved my shoulders and upper arms and used it. Hair was still growing as per normal for the 1st week of use.
In week two, I went and had everything professionally waxed and have been applying it twice a day. Hair is still growing, but seems to be slowing down, and a little more sporadically spaced, especially on the areas that were waxed.

It would appear that it is more effective on waxed skin than shaved skin.

The manufacturer says this stuff has a minty smell. Not to me it doesn’t. To me, it smells of stale cigarette smoke. I’m not the only one that has noticed this. Fortunately, I’ve gotten used to it, but it really doesn’t smell that nice to me. I can’t imagine using it on my face.

It’s easy to apply to areas that are easily accessible. Your back isn’t one of them, unless you have a helpful volunteer to do it twice a day. I am spraying it on in a bit of a position that would make a contortionist proud, and then using a loofa cloth to spread it around. So I am using the bottle up faster than usual – and I’ve noticed that if you get it on tile grout… it stains it. The stains come out, but you need to use some elbow grease to do it. Fortunately, it has the consistency of water (with a slightly urine sample color to it) so if you are using it on areas that are easy to get to, I would imagine one 250ml bottle could last you 8 weeks or longer.

I’ll try to keep you posted if interested.

Wow Kyle, epic feedback – thanks. Yes, please keep us posted!

  • Kyle

As a bit of a follow-up, I just bought my second bottle today. It’s been hard finding it in the drugstore (chemists) as it’s in pretty high demand. I haven’t noticed much of a difference in hair growth as everything is still growing – maybe just a bit slower.

The contents in the bottle I got today are a different color. Not so much a bright urine color, but rather a bit orangey. Still that cigarette-laden “citrus” smell though.

  • Kyle

And before I forget (like I did above)…. You have to be careful with this stuff and some fabrics. Make sure it’s dry before putting on your clothes. I noticed one of my shirts was ruined with stains I can’t get out all over the back – where it obviously hadn’t dried and stained the shirt.

  • Ape to Gentleman

Thanks for the feedback again Kyle – sounds like you didn’t rate it!

  • Kyle

Rate it? I’m not sure what you mean. I’m about 5 weeks into the 8 weeks they instruct you to do the 2x a day routine. Not pleased with the smell, the staining of shirts, but if it works, I’ll be one happy Orangutan! I’ll follow up at 8 or 9 weeks. (It may take longer as I was only doing 1x a day there for a week or so as I was running out and couldn’t get a new bottle)

  • Kyle

Okay, it’s been over 8 weeks and my verdict?

    Not worth it.

I’ve gone through 2 bottles of this stuff, working on my third, ruined at least 1 shirt with it causing stains that won’t come out, and I’m still hairy. I let things ‘grow in’ for a few days, while still applying the product 2x daily and can’t see any real difference to pre-Inhibitif

I’ll continue to use the 3rd bottle, but unless I see some real progress in the next week or so, this has been a $100+ exercise in futility.

  • Ape to Gentleman

Amazing feedback Kyle, thanks. Sorry it hasn’t worked for you.

  • Henri Beuler

Using it for ~ 3 months now.
Definitely less hair on the chest.
Trying it on the face/ears with less results.
It does thin the skin..more bleeding if you shave (esp “down there”)
Smells like menthol cigarettes..but getting used to it (smell goes away after it dries)

  • Ape to Gentleman

Interesing Henri, thank you. Will you be buying it again?

  • Lara

I have been using it for three weeks, the stuff does work. It is by no means a miracle for people like me who are very hairy (I am female) but it does work. I now have to shave my legs every 2-3 days, rather than everyday. The hair is growing back patchy and I am hoping it will only get more patchy. It works well on the bikini area (I avoid using in more sensitive bikini areas) that is waxed.

As an experiment, I am using it on my arms which I do not shave (shaving arms is an American thing, no?) and hoping to see results at some point.

Like Kyle said, it smells like stale cigarette smoke to me but the smell fades in about 60 minutes or less, so it is bearable. It can suck to put on, but worth it. I pay $15 to $25 (goes on sale often) a bottle and that last over a month, so it isn’t crazy expensive. I also just bought a lotion, for $10, that will probably last around two weeks.

I know this was posted a year ago, but I’d like to get back to you anyway. I have very sensitive skin, I can’t use veet. This product is nothing like that. I shave, put it on, and have zero irritation at all.
