Interview: Peter Lux, Head & Shoulders Hair Stylist

Celebrity Head & Shoulders hair stylist Peter Lux, has styled hair for the likes of Tom Hanks, Jude Law, Hugh Dancy, Tyson Beckford and more recently Jenson Button in his latest vodcast ‘Track to Tux’. Hair styling and products are big business when it comes to men, we pay a huge amount of time to our hair and styling, so Ape to Gentleman we would get an experts take on the industry and none more expert than Peter Lux; here’s what he had to say.
EA: Would you say that a good Shampoo was the core of any man’s hairstyling regime?
PL: A good shampoo should be the basis of hairstyling; start with your hair clean. In painting it’s best to start with a clean canvas, with hairstyling start with hair clean and flake free. Using an effective shampoo is a core part of this.
EA: Head & Shoulders has been a mainstay shampoo for many men, for many years; to what would you attribute this success?
PL: Well Head & Shoulders is a shampoo that actually does something; it offers people a solution, which is one of the reasons I use it myself. Itchy scalp is a common issue among most men, and can be due to the variance water in different areas. On top of that, it’s a shampoo that smells good, is easy to use while not being too expensive.

EA: If you had to pick one men’s hairstyle that has stood out for you, what would it be and why?
PL: I would say the James Dean look with the short back and sides. It’s a timeless look that never goes out of fashion. I’m not into the ‘gelled’ look. Hair has to be pliable and touchable; a real man’s haircut is easy to manage.
EA: Jenson Button was recently unveiled as the new Head & Shoulders man. What do you think typifies Jenson in this new role?
PL: Despite his success, Jenson comes across as a normal guy in his 30’s with the ‘ideal’ job. He’s not what you describe as a ‘scary’ celebrity; he is good looking and approachable but not intimidating.
EA: Apart from shampoo, which other products would you say are core to your grooming regime?
PL: I like using hair styling creams, and am fond of the Kiehl’s range. I always try to use a moisturiser on a daily basis.

EA: Do you have any other grooming tips for our readers?
PL: Always have presentable hands, and make sure you visit the dentist regularly. It’s the overall look, the complete appearance that helps confidence and in essence that makes day to day life easier.
EA: And finally, Peter if you had one piece of advice you could give to anyone, what would it be?
PL: Set goals, whatever they may be. Stay focused, know what you want and you will get there.
Take a look at Peter’s new vodcast for more tips, as well as advice from Mike Collier (Jenson Button’s Personal trainer) and Jenson Button himself on how to look your very best.

Head & Shoulders has always been a popular shampoo with men. It’s because men like products that are functional as opposed to cosmetic. Men do want their hair to look clean and shiny but the idea of having a healthy scalp is also very important. The appeal of Head & Shoulders is that it’s medicated anti-dandruff formula gives it a practical edge and seems like a reassuring product to use. Since men tend to have oilier hair than women and are much more likely to suffer dandruff and a tight, flaky scalp then it makes sense to use Head & Shoulders regularly.
I have always been very fond of Head & Shoulders myself, there is nothing like the deep-down clean and fresh tingle that this shampoo gives your hair and scalp. No wonder men just love it!
