Korres Natural Products – From homeopathic remedies to natural products.

HISTORY

Korres Natural Products is a Greek company with roots in Athens’ first ever Homeopathic Pharmacy. Set up in 1996 with the aim to utilise its extensive scientific resources for the creation of beneficial and safe products, the company today offers a complete skin and hair care range, make-up, sun care products and herbal preparations. A team of experienced scientists worked closely to make this happen, sharing common goals and values. The first Korres product was an aromatic herbal syrup with honey and aniseed, a recipe inspired by “rakomelon”, a warming spirit-with-honey concoction, which George Korres’ grandfather used to favour in his hometown on the island of Naxos.

Utilising the experience with 3000 homeopathic remedies of herbal origin and hundreds of herbal preparations, the company today offers more than 500 skin and hair care products, suncare, a full colour line, nutraceuticals and a herbal-pharmacy range of products.

PRODUCTION

Today, Korres operates from a production plant in Oinofyta, Greece, where all their products are manufactured to strict guidelines, using only the finest pharmaceutical grade ingredients. The formulation of natural products requires in-depth knowledge of natural ingredients and the use of technology to make skin-friendly and environment friendly syntheses. There are four families of active natural ingredients that Korres choose for their products:

1.Medicinal herbs (pharmacy heritage)

Herbs with well-known medicinal and cosmetic properties that they have used in their pharmacy for years such as Calendula, Saint John’s wort (hypericum), Echinacea, Thyme, Gingo biloba, Ginseng, Hamamelis, Evening primrose, Aloe vera.

2.Greek Flora

Greek flora is particularly rich with more than 5000 herbs and plants and 1200 indigenous species, known for their traditional use, such as Olive oil, Basil, Camomile, Fennel, Sage, Linden, Rosemary. Among them Korres find ingredients that are very rare or unique to the world, grow in specific areas of Greece, harvested and naturally processed by the people of  local communities. Such ingredients are Mastiha from the island of Chios and Saffron (Krokus) from the village Krokus in Kozani, northeastern Greece.

3.Food ingredients

Some food ingredients are well known for their supreme nutritional value thanks to  their high content of antioxidants, humectants, vitamins, minerals and even live cultures. At Korres, real edible Yoghurt and Greek Thyme Honey are incorporated in their natural form into the formulas in order to maintain their properties. Yoghurt cooling gel contains edible Greek yoghurt, an ingredient used for hundreds of years as a skin remedy against sunburn!

4. High-efficacy natural ingredients

New, high-efficacy herbal ingredients, the latest outcome in the Science of Cosmetology, such as Hibiscus, Argan, Andiroba, Wild Mango, Mourera fluviatilis, Imperata cylindrica, Sunflower can be obtained through advanced technologies and offer excellent antioxidant, anti-ageing and DNA-protective properties.

THE KORRES IDEALOGY

Korres are committed to continuously developing their products, using technology and research, in more environment friendly and skin-compatible ways. Thus, they broadly avoid the use of specific synthetic compounds, replacing them with naturally derived ingredients, such as vegetable oils and amino-acids that have nourishing properties and are friendly to the skin.

Mineral oil, the synthetic product of chemically processed petroleum, which is known to block skin pores, is replaced by vegetable oils of excellent quality and skin compatibility.

Silicones, a wide family of synthetic, non-biodegradable compounds, are replaced by dry vegetable oils with a velvety texture and substantial moisturizing and nourishing properties. Propylene glycol, a widely used solvent linked with a number of allergies, is replaced by butylene glycol and other solvents, which are safe and  compatible with the skin.

All products are enriched with active plant extracts that offer the richest possible content of actives in a standardized concentration that ensures maximum efficacy.
