Sheep Art

The Woolmark company, the global authority on one of the world’s finest clothing fibres – Merino wool, has launched a new initiative called the; Sheep Art campaign. Part of Woolmark’s global Cool Wool clothing campaign, initially launched in the 1980’s – they have invited several leading UK fashion designers such as Christopher Raeburn, Lou Dalton, Richard James, SIBLING, Paul Smith and Timothy Everest to participate.

The campaign is essentially promoting the versatility of Merino wool, and more specifically Cool Wool, a collection of fine, lightweight fabrics suited to warmer seasons and climates. Many of us think of wool as a cold weather warmer, but used correctly it can be a superb warm weather option – of utmost quality. Innovative breeding methods by Australian woolgrowers have progressed the versatility of wool even further for the 21st century.
Today, fashion designers are truly pushing the boundaries of wool, and in particular one of our favourite designers; Patrick Grant of E. Tautz:

“We’ll keep working to develop new ways of bringing wool into these beautiful lightweight fashion garments that we’ve produced.”

Similarly to Mr Grant, Richard Nicoll incorporates lightweight Cool Wool throughout his collections enhancing his garments’ wearability through the warmer summer months.

To coincide with the fifth season of London Collections: Men (LC:M), the designers were asked to create their interpretation of a Merino sheep, which not only complements their use of Merino wool for their spring/summer 2015 collections, but also embodies the essence of Cool Wool: that wool is a fibre for all seasons. Each original Sheep Art will be donated to the British Fashion Council (BFC) for use in an online auction in support of the BFC Education Foundation.

British GQ Editor-in-Chief and LC:M chairman Dylan Jones has also participated and supported the Sheep Art initiative. For a chance to win his digital artwork, you are invited to like your favourite Sheep Art or tweet with #coolwool.
