A Day in the Life: Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31

The Nike Pegasus series of running shoes is one of the most successful ever. With the first Pegasus shoe launching way back in 1982, the series has advanced impressively over the years, merging the best of Nike’s evolving technologies with the practicality of affordable pricing.

The latest shoe in the series, the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 31, is a sensational representation of Nike’s progress since the original Pegasus, featuring their new Zoom Air technology and an array of improvements that make it an ideal trainer for anyone who spends the majority of the day on their feet. Ape’s Lifestyle Editor puts the trainers through their paces from sun-up to sundown.

There’s a busy morning of meetings ahead and already late I’m out the door at a light jog to grab a Boris Bike and make my way in to central London. The Air Zoom Pegasus 31 wrapped snug around my feet gives me a boost to beat other commuters to the limited bike resources near my flat, and before I know it I’m off pedaling swiftly up to Knightsbridge for meeting number 1. Worn with some chinos and a tailored shirt the brand new trainers give an air of athletic professionalism, perfect for this appointment. After meeting 1 I’m on to the tube and the Pegasus 31 bring out my competitive streak as I bolt past bemused tourists and workers on the escalators and out on to the streets. In and out of appointments about town for the next few hours the trainers light, comfortable fit help me tackle the schedule with ease.

With business out of the way for the morning it’s time to relax so I set out for an afternoon run around the park to unwind. This really is where the Pegasus 31 reveals its talents. Within minutes the first lap is finished, helped along the way by the tensile fibres in the Zoom Air heel unit. Upon impact these fibres lose their tension and snap back to their original state as I move forward, resulting in a faster ride that vastly improves the performance of my run. Opting to double my usual run because of this, I wind-up back home exhausted but exhilarated at the achievement. The enhanced Air Zoom Pegasus 31 is an incredible shoe to run in, whatever your standard. For the full features, see the video on its development with Mo Farah below.

Showered and revived, there are evening drinks to head to. The trainers are beautifully designed and even with jeans still look fantastic. Designer trainers are everywhere, but none can come close to performing as well as the Pegasus 31. The day’s been energetic, but as I arrive home I can’t help but head out for just one more run in them before the sun sets.
