We’ve been fortunate over the last week or so to have come across two great fragrance houses, the first was Tauer Perfumes, with the personal passion it seems Andy Tauer puts into his perfumes translating into exceptional scents. Secondly and more recently arrived is CoSTUME NATIONAL ‘HOMME’. Created by Dominique Ropion, a fragrance deity almost, whom has lent his ‘nez’ to other superb scents such as Geranium pour Monsieur for the Editions de Parfums range by Frederic Malle. Ropion has created an almost seductive scent here for Costume National with citrus, spicy and woody notes – an all together masculine affair which smells fantastic.
“CoSTUME NATIONAL ‘HOMME’ – A masculine eau de parfum opens with a very fresh head made of grapefruit, cardamom and bergamot. The essence then plunges into the spicy heart of Cinnamon, Thyme and Cloves. In the end, Patchouli, Sandalwood and Labdanum give depth and warmth to the general accord.”
The scent itself thoroughly delighted the keen noses here at Ape to Gentleman HQ, a real masculine scent, everyone was most impressed. We also really liked the bottle with its fluid shape, silver pump and cap – the tube inside is hidden which adds to the aesthetic – Costume National have really paid attention when it comes to the importance of bottle design, having it sculptured by Ennio Capasa.
CoSTUME NATIONAL ‘HOMME’ is available as: Eau de Parfum100 ml, £79.00 and Eau de Parfum 50 ml, £58.00 from Selfridges, London.
