To celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Frédéric Malle parfum collection at Liberty London, monsieur Malle has created anniversary editions of his famous scents.
Using his God-given ability to link fragrances to colours – known as synesthesia, and a major in Art History – Malle was granted access to the extensive, 140 year old Liberty archives. His goal; to choose colours which aptly represent his scents.
His first selections where made in London, then refined in NYC via hi-res imagery sent over the ether – ensuring each fragrance had a real connection to each print.
“My hope is that the viewer sees them as one, as if each design had been done specifically to illustrate each perfume. The 18th century design used for Portrait of a Lady epitomises the sophisticated grandeur of the fragrance while Lys Mediterranée conjures the bright, Mediterranean light that infuses the perfume.
I am delighted to use this anniversary as the opportunity to unearth some truly magnificence design work from the late 1700’s to 1990, by merging our perfumes with Liberty’s patterned masterpieces.”
There are 18 anniversary editions, which can be seen here. The collaboration launches at Liberty today, 20/11/13.
