With the curtain falling on another year at The All England Lawn Tennis Club, our thoughts have reflected over the history of the tournament and indeed on the great tradition of British lawn sports as a whole.
Perfectly timed to accompany these nostalgic ruminations of quintessential English sporting endeavors is the launch of new cologne Renshaw, from pioneering modern British barbers, Murdock.
William and Ernest Renshaw
Taking both its name and inspiration from two of Britain’s sporting greats, tennis playing brothers William and Ernest Renshaw, the fragrance blends appealing green notes together to create an idiosyncratic aroma that manages to be both nostalgic and contemporary in one go.
Interestingly for cologne Renshaw dabbles heavily with floral notes, including Violet, Lily of the Valley and Gardenia; combined with white woods and musk this leads to a more innovative interpretation of classic citrus-heavy colognes. Indeed, much like the brothers that inspired it, the fragrance has a vintage feel that perfectly captures an era of well-turned-out sportsman who dressed as elegantly as they played.
The tennis may have concluded, but a spritz of Renshaw should help inspire extended sessions of all lawn sports for the remainder of the summer.
