The Shelf: Combat Ageing
Combat the signs of ageing with these simple changes to your skincare and grooming routine.
Despite the continuing trend for beards, a clean cut approach to your look will make you appear younger than your days. Opt for a high quality protective pre-shave oil (Anthony Pre Shave Oil,£24) shaving cream (Geo F Trumper Coconut Oil Shaving Cream Bowl, £16) to deliver a close, irritation-free shave with a baby-skin smooth result.
There’s nothing like a clear complexion to reveal your youthful side. A good quality face wash (Malin+Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser, £29) will throughly cleanse away impurities, followed by a face scrub (Malin+Goetz Jojoba Face Scrub, £29) to be used twice weekly- perfect for removing the dull layer of surface-skin, resulting in a refreshed complexion.
Dark circles and ‘bags’ are one of the most tell-tale signs of ageing, and more often than not- tiredness. Drink more water, get more sleep but if neither (particularly the latter) are possibly you should opt for an instant eye energiser (Polaar Icy Magic, £25) and or a concealer (Recipe for Men Concealer 0.2 Medium, £17) if you’ve gone past the point of no return.
As we approach summer, pack away your dark, woody fragrance and invest in a citrus-fresh offering (Comme des Garcons Amazingreen, £55). Not only will it energise you, it will also deliver a more playful and youthful outlook.
One of the most documented causes of ageing is sun-damage. You might be aware that sunscreen on holiday is appropriate, well a daily SPF is equally important. Fortunately, many brands have a moisturiser + SPF (Recipe for Men SPF 15 Facial Moisturiser, £27) option- apply in the morning and benefit from day-long hydration and sun protection. Even on a cloudy day in London, your skin can be damaged by the sun.
A Thicker Hatch
As men age, most see a diminishing hair line. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about, but undoubtedly a thicker head of hair is more reminiscent of our teenage years, not to mention it does actually make you look younger. Use an anti-DHT, hair thickening shampoo (Baxter of California Daily Protein Shampoo, £18) and for the next level of fulfilment, try hair thickening fibres (Nanogen Hair Thickening Fibres, £18.95).
