Beach Bag Essentials

We’re officially in may, the sun is shining (sometimes) and that holiday you booked during your winter blues is fast approaching. As tempting as it may be to just throw a weeks worth of clothes into a bag, jump on a plane and not look back… it’s probably not the best of ideas. The thought of letting yourself frazzle under a hot sun only moving to replenish the cocktail in your hand certainly does sound appealing, the aftermath certainly isn’t though. The sun can cause you serious damage, so do make sure that your protected. These beach bag essentials will keep you safe and stylish this summer.

Suncream

You don’t need me to tell you that the sun is bad for your skin. Apart from the skin cancer risks it’s the prime cause of wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. Sitting inside all day might not be your idea of fun so we recommend Polaar Very High Protection Sun Spray SPF 50. You can’t argue with this product as a necessity, it essentially does what it says on the tin so to speak. Powerful, UV blocking, in a sprayable bottle. Allowing safe sun exposure, while also creating a natural and radiant looking tan. A light and non-greasy formula that is water and sand resistant.

SPF Moisturiser

The sun can seriously dry up the skin so remember to moisturise religiously! A spf moisturiser can be used all year round, but definitely while the sun is out loud and proud. It’s always good to have that added protection. Our favourite SPF moisturiser is the lovely Malin+Goetz SPF 30 Face Moisturizer. Green tea anti-oxidant extracts protect skin against environmental toxins and free radicals that may cause harm whilst hydrating and soothing the skin.

*Not a safe alternative to sunscreen. Use both together.

Lip Balm

Summer is a prime time for outbreaks of cold sore and chapped lips, because sunlight – coupled with the stress of travelling if you’re off on your hols – often lowers the immune system just enough for the virus that causes them to flare up. Microscopic damage to lips can trigger the virus, too, so keep them conditioned and protected against the sun with Malin+Goetz Mojito Lip Balm. A deeply hydrating balm with no impurities or harsh chemicals, it works wonders on the lips, and the Mojito flavouring is simply intoxicating.

Hand and Foot Cream

Between the sand and the sea your hands and feet often suffer the most and It’s usually because we forget to look after them. Although a day at the beach can be a excellent exfoliant, the salt does cause the skin to dehydrate, thus causing dry or broken skin. Keep them moisturised with Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme and Burt’s Bees Shea Butter Hand Repair Creme.

Deodorant

This is a given, you would assume. Nobody wants to be caught out smelling of B.O. but science states heat and movement causes you to sweat, so it’s inevitable. A long lasting deodorant is something worth investing in for a trip to the beach. Malin+Goetz Eucalyptus Deodorant is formulated with odour-neutralising Citronellal Methylcrotonate, and 0.25% Eucalyptus extract to keep you fresh.

Hair Protection

UV rays don’t just carry the risk of damaging your skin, they can also damage your hairs cellular structure and dry up it’s natural oils, leaving it brittle, straw-like and susceptible to breakage. Have no fear Tommy Gunns Leave Me In Conditioner And Styling Creme is gentle yet potent. The conditioning crème smoothes, detangles and improves hair’s health and shine, while stopping the harmful rays drying out the hair.
