Nike 2016 Black History Month Collection
Nike have been celebrating Black History Month since 2005, evolving from a pair of Nike Air Force 1 sneakers to today- where the US sportswear giants offer a wide assortment of products, designed to pay tribute to black athletes worldwide.
Think Serena Williams’s redefining of women’s tennis or Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2006- these performances and individuals rewrote history and catalysed community.
The limited-edition 2016 collection, with staggered launches running from January to mid-February, features 28 products, across tennis, basketball, football, running, Nike iD and the Nike Jordan Brand. A vivid Pan African-inspired colour palette, with custom geometric motifs typifies the range.
Basketball footwear releases include the LEBRON 13, KD8, KYRIE 2 and the KOBE 11. Other categories see a new Air Force 1, Nike Air Footscape Magista and Nike Roshe One. At Nike Sportswear; NikeCourt Flare footwear from Tennis; Streak LT 3 footwear from Running; and the Air Jordan 1 Nouveau from the Jordan Brand. A BHM-themed Magista Obra FG boot and Jordan Spike 40 follow in February. BHM apparel comprises hoodies, T-shirts and shorts.
