Up today on Ape- more from Tom Ford. Yes, the ubiquitous Texan is adding further to his Private Blend collection of unisex fragrance– this time with a focus on ‘green’. Ranging from floral citrus to deepest woods; Les Extraits Verts refer back to the 70s olfactive experience but with a modern interpretation on ‘green’, with rarely used ingredients in the world of fragrance.

Vert d’Encens

Inspired by the Corsican coast, known as “The Perfumed Isle,” an aromatic moky incense, pine resin and fir balsam, with heliotrope and woods. The fragrance opens with pine resin, lavender and basil with underlying notes of lemon and bergamot. At the heart there is a tree sap accord and a blend of spicy cardamom with jasmine while a Boxtree Accord captures the essence of leather and smoke.

Vert Bohème

Our favourite, and made with Sicilian mandarin and magnolia, enhanced with Gustavia Superba, also known as “the Tree of Heaven” which is recognised for its single blossoms that last for just one day. Citrus notes of Sicilian mandarin, Italian lemon and Calabrese bergamot are blended with floral notes such as hyacinth, white honeysuckle and narcissus, alongside Magnolia and violet leaf. The base of the fragrance is made up of woody textures with oakmoss, vetiver and lightly roasted oakwood, with a final ambery touch of cistus.

Vert des Bois

Unusually crafted with poplar bud extract, ouzo, olive tree leaves and plum notes- this pine-vanillic impression of lentisque is cool and warm. Notes of jasmine define the fragrance’s white floral heart, topped by the spicy woodiness of pepperwood and a dose of cistus, closing with oakwood absolute, which is obtained by lightly toasting oak chips to amplify its gourmand notes.

The Packaging

As with all Tom Ford Private Blend fragrances, all three are housed in signature Private Blend bottles inspired by perfumers’ of old dark brown apothecary bottles. The 50 ml bottle was created to be weighty in the hand but with the sleek, architectural look of a chess piece. There is also a 250 ml decanter with touches of gold on the label and a crimped cord tie, housed in a richly textured box.
