Paris Motor Show 2016 Highlights
Paris may be synonymous with fashion and fine dining, but every other year it also plays host to one of the world’s biggest motor shows. Ape headed to the French capital to get up close and personal with some of the best new cars that will be making their way into showrooms next year.
Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster
It’s a topless version of one of the best looking cars on sale. The AMG GT roadster retains its voluptuous curves and sleek body but now features an intricate folding roof. It uses the same 4.0-litre twin turbo engine as the coupe and should cost around £10,000 more over the hardtop.
Land Rover Discovery
It’s been around for 26 years but one of the world’s most iconic SUVs has a new look and new tech. Land Rover has introduced a new four-cylinder diesel engine for the first time, there are now seven seats as standard, while the Disco has been on a extensive weight loss regime shedding almost 500kg over the car it replaces. That will make it faster but also more economical than before, too. Prices start at just under £43,500.
Audi S5 Sportback
The S5 Sportback lodges itself firmly in the category of being the only car you could possibly ever need. It’s spacious enough for five full grown adults and all of their luggage, while a new 3.0-litre V6 turbo ensure there’s plenty of shove on tap to get you where you need to go.
Audi RS3 Saloon
You wait for one fast Audi and then two come along at once. The RS3 saloon may be the baby of the Audi’s RS range but don’t underestimate it. Under the bonnet sits a new 394bhp 2.5-litre turbo which slingshots it from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds – that’s faster than the old Lamborghini Gallardo.
Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid
It may be hybrid but don’t let that fool you – the new Panamera is still a 456bhp super saloon at heart. Its incredibly complex but highly impressive powertrain means it can travel on electricity for up to 30 miles, return 113mpg yet still hit 173mph flat out. Bizarrely it’s also the cheapest Panamera you can buy at just over £71,000.
