Saturdays NYC SS17

Today we take a look at one of our favourite brands; Saturdays NYC and its Spring/ Summer 2017 collection. Our friends in New York tell us this collection is inspired by the process of creating ceramic vessels, and a crisp, refined utilitarian look. We see sophisticated draping details and the use of premium fabrications such as nylon satin and tri-colour twisted yarn mélanges in dune, ivory, midnight and sage colour-ways.

Of particular note is the linen category which sees the introduction of suits to the Saturdays NYC offering, with the Brian Blazer (above), a double-breasted suit jacket featuring horn buttons to accompany the Gordie trouser. There are Gurkha pleated linen shorts which offer a casual alternative to a summer suit pant too. Light knits, sweats and crew necks in boxier fits are naturally dyed by vegetable, ash and clay, taking on richer pigments that age with wear. Vertical stripe woven shirts and shorts compliment the neutral shades and add sharpness to the collection.

There are a host of new styles too which include the Lim Studio Jacket (above), a versatile piece inspired by traditional ceramist attire, which is juxtaposed with the use of military drill cloth that can be worn casually or as a blazer. And our favourite- the Julian bomber in nylon satin which see’s the popular silhouette updated and modernised with clean-cut sleeves and a bottom hem.

Windbreakers and the double garment dyed Malmo trench coat are given a military makeover with the addition of singular shells, large pockets and oversized lapels.

Premium vegetable tanned leather pouches (above) and wallets are given an upgrade with natural indigo dye that’s hand made in Japan. New releases for footwear styles this season include the Abrisivato leather Bill Moc Toe brogues, as well as the waxed canvas and Nubuck sneakers. Another seriously strong collection as Saturdays NYC continues to grow from strength to strength.
