On Reflection | The Grand Journey x Bombay Sapphire

You may have noticed across our social channels and here on Ape to Gentleman we’ve been working with Bombay Sapphire. The purpose; to convey the unique botanicals within Bombay Sapphire, and how they give this famous gin its flavour profile. The story centres around ‘A Gin of Ten Journeys’ which relates to the ten botanicals within Bombay Sapphire: Juniper Berries, Grains of Paradise, Almonds, Lemon Peel, Cuceb Berries, Coriander Seeds, Angelica Root, Cassia Bark, Orris Root and Liquorice.

As you’ll know; the best way to learn is through experience. We can see all the beautifully produced TV adverts, print features, online content and such like but nothing substitutes experience. And to convey the work put in to creating a superbly balanced gin, Bombay Sapphire let us into their world. Our journey began with a visit to the Bombay Sapphire distillery in Laverstoke where we learned and experienced the level of detail, in particular, the Master of Botanicals, Ivano Tonutti goes to, to ensure Bombay Sapphire has it’s unique and delicious flavour.

We were then challenged to read up on the history of Bombay Sapphire, learning about the companies history and perhaps most interestingly Ivano’s journey across the planet to source the very best ingredients. Grains of Paradise from Ghana in West Africa or Liquorice from China. These aren’t just any ingredients, they are the finest available.

And finally, we boarded the Bombay Sapphire Express- a ‘train’ located at the Banking Hall in central London where lauded chef Tom Sellers created dishes inspired by the botanicals used in Bombay Sapphire.

This feature might sound like we are biased towards Bombay Sapphire, we aren’t, but you can’t help but admire (and enjoy) a brand’s creation, no matter which field of expertise, when it goes to such monstrous lengths to deliver such a superb product. Bombay Sapphire truly is A Gin of Ten Journeys. And if you’re heading into this weekend feeling like relaxing (responsibly) with a gin on tonic, why not try Ape’s twist on the classic G&T here.
