Hot Properties: The Most Stylish New Hotels Opening In 2020
Where will you stay in 2020? Will it be among stylish Scandinavian interiors looking out over glacial rivers and a snow-covered forest, or will it be in the battlements of an opulent, renovated 14th-century Indian fort? If you’re lucky it could be both, as they both feature in our rundown of the new hotel openings we’re most excited for this year.
Arctic Bath, Swedish Lapland
Opening January 2020, Arctic Bath Hotel in Swedish Lapland is one of the most anticipated new hotel openings in the world this year. The spa and wellness facility has put relaxation and comfort at the forefront of every stay, encouraging guests to immerse themselves in the elements while leaving a minimal environmental footprint behind. Sustainable wood and stone combine in true Scandinavian style with cabins and suites designed to make the most of the surrounding natural habitat. Many sit perched on the shore whilst others are accessible via a floating walkway.
The resort’s restaurant makes the most of impressive local produce with set menus based around comforting and deliciously healthy meals paired with carefully selected beers and wines. As you can imagine there are activities galore in the surrounding snowscape (snow mobile anyone?). If the thought of getting out and about is too taxing, however, simply unwind at first class spa facilities.
The Pig At Harlyn Bay, Cornwall
Another addition to The Pig collective of renovated country house hotels arrives in June 2020, this time with sweeping views over Cornwall’s Haryln Bay. Close to Padstow in Cornwall, home of celebrated chefs Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth, the renovation of Grade-II listed Harlyn House will no doubt follow in the footsteps of the hotel group’s array of upgraded countryside retreats set among idyllic surroundings.
Ambiente – A Landscape Hotel, Arizona
Billed as North America’s first landscape hotel, Ambiente, close to Sedona in Arizona, is the ideal stay for those in search of stylish accommodation amongst dramatic surroundings. Comprising 40 cube-shaped guest atriums set against Sedona’s mystical red rocks, every effort has been made by the complex to put forward a hotel championing organic architecture and sustainable building methods, notably in the structures stilt-supported build.
Nobu Hotel, Tel Aviv
Set to open this year with similar projects tipped for London and Warsaw, the De Niro-helmed boutique hotel group has grand plans for its first venture in Israel. Based around its signature restaurant, the 38-room luxury hotel on Rothschild Boulevard will also offer a large garden, fitness centre and pool, outdoor spaces and a private rooftop for events. Although an opening date is not yet confirmed, plans reveal a delightful mix of modern and classic, making the hotel a perfect addition to one of the city’s most upmarket areas.
One&Only Portonovi, Montenegro
Famed for its award-winning luxury resorts worldwide, One + Only will open its first European venture this spring, in scenic Montenegro. Surrounded by the stunning Adriatic vistas of Portonovi, it’s no wonder the group chose this secluded coastal retreat for its latest outpost. Once you’ve managed to tear your eyes away from the scenery, there’ll be world-class spa facilities, state-of-the-art tennis courts, a private marina and jetties, expertly-curated day trips – and that’s without mentioning decadent rooms with private sea-facing terraces. Panoramic Bayview Rooms will provide another chance to soak in glorious sunsets.
Ritz-Carlton Rabat, Morocco
Set for an April 2020 opening, Ritz Carlton’s latest foray into North Africa is going to be a decadent affair. You only need to look as far as its backdrop of landscaped gardens, 440 acres of oak forest and the prestigious Royal Golf Dar es Salam course. Not one but five restaurants will offer tantalising takes on local and regional cuisine and the hotel brand’s renowned spa and fitness facilities will also feature a trademark hammam. The room roll call includes 120 guest rooms and a handful of private villas.
Rosewood, Sao Paulo
With an opening fated for late 2020, the Rosewood hotel in vibrant Sao Paulo will be a major talking point before guests even step inside thanks to its distinct “vertical garden” exterior. Designed by leading figures including Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel and the designer Philippe Starck, this renovation of a historic 1904 maternity hospital couldn’t be more eye-catching.
Inside, the Rosewood Sao Paulo will feature 151 guest rooms and 122 owners’ suites, complemented by two restaurants – one overlooking the hotel’s lush gardens – a bar and caviar lounge. Also part of the complex will be two swimming pools, a recording studio, state-of-the-art spa facilities, screening room and high-end retail stores.
Six Senses Fort Barwara, Rajasthan
Set in a masterfully transformed 14th-century fort in Rajasthan, India, this former home to the region’s Royal Family is set for an early 2020. The first Six Senses resort to open in India, the hotel and surrounding grounds have made a clear effort to minimise their environmental impact whilst conserving the structure, keeping many of the defining details of the fort in place.
In-keeping with traditions of regal ambience, inside there’s a palatial feel to interiors, with 48 suites, two restaurants serving classic dishes and modern cuisine as well as a bar, lounge, and vast spa and wellness facilities. Two swimming pools, banqueting rooms and a kids club complete a truly luxury package.
