Growing old is something that all men fear, and find hard to adjust to accordingly. The transition period can be hard to gauge; are you dressing too old for your age, or too young? Then there is the choice in hair style and colour, and that’s if you still have hair left. With all these decisions the best thing to do is keep it simple. Keep your fashion uncomplicated, hair style understated and hair colour natural.

The key to growing old gracefully is not to fight it, but see how best to embrace it; the end result is that you will see not only a new you, but maybe even a better you.

Good examples of this are the men under public constant scrutiny – Hollywood actors. The likes of Pierce Brosnan, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, have all managed to retain their ‘pin-up’ status without having to rest on the laurels of their youth. While they have reinvented themselves as new style icons, their style has remained simple. Their skin is always a picture of health, they do keep in shape but overall they let age take its course.

The Oscars, as always, is a showcase for much talked about fashion and style trends, but one thing I have noticed is the men embracing their grey hair, and choosing to leave the colour how nature intended. Be it flecks, speckled or full grey head of hair, there is something about grey that exudes character, guile and makes a man look distinguished, something that is harder to achieve with the cleaner looking black hair colour. Could grey the new black? Maybe we should ask 2010 Oscar winner Jeff Brides, and see what he thinks.
