Landing today, 9 September 2013 – the all new Penhaligon’s Iris Prima unisex fragrance. Designed in partnership with the English National Ballet, Penhaligon’s ambitious aim was to capture the essence of the ballet in a fragrance. In essence, master perfumer Alberto Morillas became a choreographer, of sorts.
Morillas was given exclusive access to English National Ballet dancers Nathan Young and Lauretta Summerscales, as well as rehearsals and glimpses from theatre wings – to help him capture the ballet in a bottle.
- Head Notes: Bergamot, Green Amber, Pink Pepper
- Heart Notes: Iris Absolute, Jasmine Sambac, Hedione, Paradisone
- Base Notes: Leather, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Benzoin
Head notes of bergamot are said to represent the opening of the dance, and its citrus freshness of graceful flight. Green amber softens the effect and contrasts with pink pepper. Key ingredient; powdery Iris Absolute takes centre stage (naturally) at the heart along with potent Jasmine Sambac two innovative molecules; Hedione and Paridisione. The base posseses musky leather, representing the pointe shoe along with light touches of sandalwood, vetiver, vanilla and benzoin to signify the soul of ancient theatres, as well as the rehearsal studios and corridors of English National Ballet’s home in South Kensington, Markova House.
