Today Ape to Gentleman pays homage to the resurgence of true classic fragrance; actually, on reflection it’s more of a reincarnation. The original ‘Polo’ cologne released by Ralph Lauren in 1978, epitomises the smell of man; a masculine blend of leather, wood, tobacco, basil and oakmoss, bottled in the iconic green and gold flacon, timeless in its appearance but instantly recognisable by generations of men worldwide. It’s for that reason they decided to stick with the gentleman’s flask inspired bottle which employs the distinctive green glass with the elegant gold cap and emblazoned bold Polo Pony.
With the scent itself, they decided to not change, but tweak the original for the new generation, the son’s of the Polo clientele. Inorder to reinvent this classic they called on the help of Polo’s original creator, Carlos Benaïm of IFF. Carlos took the sharp, woody, arid fragrance and introduced cardamom spice in the top notes to add an entirely new level of clarity and energy to this invigorating fragrance. A refined vetyver-leather and liquid jasmine blend exudes elegance in the mid notes, while patchouli and sueded leather meets deep woods in the base notes to create rugged sophistication.
The result is Polo Modern Reserve, an aromatic leathery fragrance juxtaposing crisp notes with deep, sleek woods and sensual sueded leathers – true testament to the unerring tradition of the Ralph Lauren house.
“Polo isn’t just a fragrance. It’s a tradition…a way of life.” Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren Polo Modern Reserve is also available in a limited edition bottle which sees this timeless fragrance housed in a leather case with a 24karat gold cap.
