After the time-honoured success of Roger & Gallet L’Homme Eau de Toilette, gracing gents bathroom shelves since 1979, the French masters of fine fine fragrance have launched a new line. Calling upon their 200 years experience and evident expertise in the skin care market Roger & Gallet have expanded the L’Homme range with a careful selection of men’s grooming essentials.
Roger & Gallet L’Homme Eeau de Toilette is the epitome of masculinity, a real woody chypre of a scent and a favourite of mine for some time now. Roger & Gallet in general is a brand I admire, so naturally I was pleased to hear of their foray into the men’s market. The appeal for me besides the high quality products is the classic, stylish branding – it has a thoroughly regal feel to it.
As mentioned the new Roger & Gallet L’Homme range focuses on men’s grooming essentials and five key steps…
Cleanse and Prepare, Shave, Soothe, Hairdressing and Perfume
Cleanse and Prepare
This refers to the secret to nick free shaving, shave post-shower, to dilate pores and soften the beard. Roger & Gallet L’Homme Hair and Body Shower Gel makes this step a pleasure with the rich foaming gel packed with delicious ingredients like Coconut Oil, Copra and Ginseng to leave hair and skin not only smelling fantastic but toned and moisturised too. 200ml £9.50
Shave and Soothe
Catered for by the L’Homme Shaving Foam or L’Homme Shaving Cream and L’Homme After Shave Balm. The L’Homme Shaving Foam again possess fine ingredients such as softening and soothing Allantoin and moisturising Aloe Vera combined with a clever anti-bacterial agent to protect your freshly shaven skin. Alternatively you may wish to use the equally good L’Homme Shaving Cream, with key ingredient Shea Butter forming a protective and moisturising barrier. Follow this up with the gel-cream After Shave Balm, which offers a pleasing soothing and moisturising effect with Aloe Vera and White Tea. The lack of alcohol in both products makes them gentle on delicate shaven skin. Foam 150ml £11.00, Cream 100ml £9.50, Balm 75ml £12.00
Roger & Gallet L’Homme Supple Hair Fixative Gel is again, alcohol free and made with natural gums. Despite men opting more for pastes, clay and pomade of late, partly due to the fact that a good gel-hold is hard to find, Roger & Gallet’s take on the teenagers favourite doesn’t disappoint. I find gel doesn’t offer me that lasting hold but regardless of my preferences the Roger & Gallet gel offers a sturdy attempt. Hair is easily sculpted and left feeling clean (importantly), generally just a clean, healthy look – not overly shiny and it doesn’t dry out the hair. My other pet hate is a greasy stick gel, again Roger & Gallet don’t disappoint, it is easily washed of hands and out of hair. 100ml £9.50
Overall, the new Roger & Gallet L’Homme skin care range gets the thumbs up from me and Ape to Gentleman. The stand out product in the office was L’Homme Hair and Body Shower Gel and everyone was positive about the rest of the range. Now, the best for last…
I eluded to the time-honoured success of Roger & Gallet L’Homme Eau de Toilette early in this post, a winning formulation…
Head note: Lemon and Spearmint.
Heart note: Ylang Ylang and Spices.
Base note: Vetyver, Patchouli and Amber.
Roger & Gallet have added to the L’Homme Eau de Toilette with L’Homme Sport Eau de Toilette. They have kept the same masculine base as L’Homme but ‘energised’ the top notes with Grapefruit and Tea replacing Lemon and Spearmint and the warm/cool contrast of Pink Peppercorn and Cardomom replacing Ylang Ylang and Spices – a great summer scent. Both scents 100ml £33.50
Hats off to Roger. And Gallet.
