When the time came for Korres to develop its first fragrance collection, the process itself was a milestone in the Greek skincare brand’s history. Synthetics-free fragrances, inspired by nature, each developed with a different leading perfume house and named simply for its dominant notes.

“A world without scent, would be a world without history.”

Spice, fruit, wood and flower. Nature’s gifts but also precious trade – or even currency – of a bygone age, the value of which has often been similed with gold. Amber, White Tea, Cardamom, Jasmine, Saffron, Pepper, Passion Fruit. Aromatic blends that balance between luxury and simplicity, classic and contemporary.

As part of an ongoing effort to eliminate potential exposure to polycyclic-musk (PCM), nitro-musk and phthalates, Korres has opted for a fragrance that is free of these synthetic non-biodegradable compounds that are widely used as fragrance fixatives and are known to cause irritations and bioaccumulation; Korres developed instead a formula, preserved with a natural food-grade antioxidant – Rosmarinus officinalis [rosemary].

A simple, ‘strict’ bottle at a first glance…a closer look reveals more; the tiny yet significant details like its ‘broken’ corners. A special mould was developed in Normandy by a small unit of quality glass productions, exclusively for Korres Fragrance. The selected colours signify pharmacy bottles; their luxury is ‘smashed’ by the use of the pure white soft-touch lid, a truly unconventional choice for a perfume top, but in tune with the brand’s trademark concept of contrasts. The use of the white symbolises pharmacies and labs, spaces that establish the Korres heritage. The result, elegant, individual, strict, simple but also a design statement. The artwork featured on the fragrance boxes comes from George Korres’ extensive vintage-homeopathy-books collection. The boxes open up like books to reveal the history of each scent inside.

Agarwood or Agar, is the aromatic resin that is formed within the heartwood of the Aquilaria trees. The complex yet pleasing and distinct aroma of agarwood has almost no similar analogues.

Cardamom, one of the most expensive spices, carries a strong unique taste and intense aroma. A traditional open-flames-drying process lends a smoky flavour to the spice which has enjoyed several medicinal and culinary uses.

A sublime ingredient with a distinctively sweet and seducing aroma.

Cultivated for centuries in the Calabrian coast, bergamot is a citrus fruit that originated in Asia. Highly appreciated by perfumers around the world for its sharp, sweet-bitter, heart-warming notes, bergamot is associated with long Mediterranean evenings.

The spicy, fresh notes and the aromatic blends of citrus and wood have transformed Pepper, also once known as ‘black gold’, into a timeless spice.

With its Jasmine base, the aromatic jasmine absolute, one of the most sought-out ingredients in perfumery, is known worldwide for its intense, warm, rich, exotic, sweet floral scent.

The Gaiac wood oil, obtained through steam distillation, has a mild, ‘precious-wood’ scent, as well as stimulant and rejuvenating properties. Gaiac tree – meaning Wood of Life – owes its name to its medicinal qualities.

What They Avoid:

Musk-based ingredients have been used widely over the years for their scent and ability to ‘mask’ undesirable odours of the formula base. Polycyclic-musks (PCM) and Nitro-musks are synthetic aromatic compounds used in cosmetic products, detergents and cleaning agents. In addition to being linked to a number of skin irritations and bioaccumulation, these compounds are also non-biodegradable.

Phthalates are a large and diverse chemical family with a number of applications including wide use in the cosmetics and perfume industries. Certain phthalates -DBT, DEHP and BBP- have been accused of being highly irritating as they can be absorbed by the skin and cause allergic reactions.

The new Korres Fragrance Range is available to the UK and rest of the world from Niven & Joshua.
