Top 10 Sensitive Skin Face Moisturisers for Men
*Last Updated 22nd March 2017.
In numerical order of supremacy, this list, compiled from customer feedback, popularity, innovation, ingredients, results, price and Ape to Gentleman’s testers displays the Top 10 Sensitive Skin Face Moisturisers for Men the male grooming world has to offer.
A good sensitive skin face moisturiser should hydrate throughly, but not leave the skin irritated, and offer value for money – a balance which is tricky to get right. Many grooming brands assume all men have only oily skin, this is obviously not the case, but only a handful produce men-specific sensitive skin moisturisers. In light of this, we have included a selection of men-specific and unisex offerings.
We expect a lot you say? As always, yes. And why not? Ape to Gentleman brings you our Top 10 Sensitive Skin Face Moisturisers for Men, don’t settle for anything less.
1. Shiseido Moisturizing Recovery Cream
Shiseido, one of Ape to Gentleman’s favourite brands, steals the number one spot. Shiseido’s offering does exactly what the title suggests; recovers traumatised skin. The reasonably thick formula should be applied sparingly and will calm, soothe and hydrate sensitive and irritated skin.
£42 for 50ml at FEEL UNIQUE.
2. Decléor Harmonie Calm Soothing Milky Cream
The Decléor Harmonie Calm Soothing Milky Cream is a strong favourite. Despite the clever use of Aromachology (the study of the influence of odours on behaviour), the mild fragrance does not irritate the skin, and the rich, hydrating texture keeps sensitive skin soothed and hydrated. Decléor also do a ‘fluid’ version which is better suited to those with sensitive but not so dry skin.
£50 for 50ml at FEEL UNIQUE.
3. Yu-Be Cream
Yu-Be is a treasure which doesn’t get enough coverage in the UK. The Japanese staple is used in Japan (known there as Yuskin A) to treat a whole host of skin ailments, from dry to sensitive skin, through to sun burn and minor skin irritations. It’s full of antioxidants and vitamins E and B2, to tackle even the driest skin. We recommend to apply this non-greasy formula at night, for calmer, hydrated skin the following morning.
£13.50 for 33g at SPACE NK.
4. Bulldog Sensitive Moisturiser
Bulldog make our top 10 once again, proving that affordability and quality can co-exist. With natural wonder ingredients, and no chemical horrors, Bulldog’s sensitive skin specific moisturiser expertly calms the skin. Texture wise, it’s a perfect bridge between rich enough but not too thick. This non-greasy formula designed specifically for men is superb.
£5.99 for 100ml at MANKIND.
5. Neal’s Yard Remedies Soothing Starflower Daily Moisture
A unisex offering, but the deep-purple glass bottle is extremely stylish and manly (enough). The lotion itself is light in texture, making it ideal to wear throughout the day. A host of organic ingredients and specifically, “cooling aloe vera” ensure sensitive skin is left soothed, nourished and protected. You can complete your Soothing Starflower range with their excellent face cleanser and daily essence.
£25 for 100ml at NEAL’S YARD REMEDIES.
6. REN EverCalm Global Protection Day Cream
REN means clean or pure in Swedish, so you’d expect it to be ideal for sensitive skin, and it is. The calming ingredients of this day cream soothe sensitive skin, whilst its inclusion of the ‘Bio Active’ ingredient; Arctic Blackcurrant seed, helps to reduce skin inflammation and irritation. Again, the texture is pleasant; a medium thickness which is quickly absorbed. Our only complaint is that it doesn’t last as long as some others in this list, and at £28.00 it’s quite pricey, but it’s worth it.
£28 for 50ml at MANKIND.
7. Nuxe Ultra Comfortable Face Cream
Extremely popular in France; Nuxe is a nature-driven line of products growing in popularity in the UK and US. The Ultra Comfortable Face Cream employs Fir Honey, renowned for its’ moisturising and repairing qualities. Other ingredients include Okoumé resin and Anasensyl, both rich in soothing properties. All of these, and more, merged together to form an excellent moisturiser for sensitive skin. Again, a reasonably thick cream but it melts into the skin quickly enough and leaves skin hydrated and soothed.
£25.50 for 50ml at MANKIND.
8. Cowshed Bullocks Soothing Moisturiser
Another of Ape to Gentleman’s favourite brands, Cowshed. The Cowshed Bullocks Soothing Moisturiser is designed with post-shave irritation in mind, but this soothing moisturiser can be used all over the face. The stand-out ingredient is Hemp Seed Oil which can help improve dryness, eczema, irritation and skin disease. The texture is first class, arguably the best in the list and the concentrated formula really lasts.
£16 for 100ml at MANKIND.
9. Anthony Logistics All Purpose Facial Moisturiser
The Anthony Logistics All Purpose Facial Moisturiser isn’t aimed specifically at men with sensitive skin, but as the title suggests, it’s ‘all purpose’. A great consistency, fragrance-free and suitable for “all skin types”. For those with extremely reactive skin, we would advise another choice from this list, but if you’re a quiet sufferer then give it a go. The lightweight formula absorbs easily into the skin.
£29 for 90ml at MANKIND
10. E45 Cream
The time honoured family favourite. A cream used for years by families to battle eczema, dermatitis and other dry skin conditions. Good for soothing sensitive skin and certainly affordable. Our only slight concern is the “non-greasy formula” is in fact quite greasy, so we suggest it’s better used as a night cream or an SOS cream.
£7.09 for 350g at BOOTS.
