The Truth About Male Waxing
While male waxing is growing in popularity, it does remain somewhat of a taboo. Well, no longer – Ape to Gentleman are smashing that taboo. Unsightly body hair, should be removed for a variety of reasons – and crucially, if it makes you feel better, go for it. The next step is actually getting it done – which can be a worrisome thought, so we enlisted the help of head therapist Chloe from Ministry of Waxing in London for a thorough breakdown of what to expect.
“It is the fear of the unknown” says head therapist Chloe from Ministry of Waxing; “Men don’t know what to experience, they haven’t done a DIY job like women”.
With an increase in men’s grooming trends, more men are taking the plunge and daring to bare. Ministry of Waxing have three central London locations ( Mayfair, Islington and Covent Garden) and have seen a rise in the number of male clients.
“The most popular treatment is the chest, with a rise in appointments for fingers and hands for the board room and feet and toes for holidays. A lot more men are having the famous ‘Boyzilian’ it’s much more hygienic.”
…reports Chloe. Ministry of Waxing see a lot of men booking in for the Boyzilian and women booking for their partners; as Ministry of Waxing say ‘Upsize in just forty minutes with the Boyzilian’.
Thinking about joining the smooth side? Here’s The Truth About Male Waxing:
Does it hurt?
One of the first questions, we’re asked. First off we apply rescue remedy to the tongue to comfort and calm nerves, and a squeezy toy is given to all customers. We work with the client to reduce pain by specific breathing techniques; the waxing strip is pulled off as the client breathes out as muscles are totally relaxed at this phase (pain is caused when muscles are tensed). For the treatment we use our signature flavour wax; strawberry that packs in the healing powers of chamomile and aloe vera to calm and soothe skin or coconut that grips around the hair for better removal with less pain.
How intimate is it?
We’ll often speak to the customer about their desired look and lifestyle for the best suited treatment. A full Boyzilian includes public bone, scrotum, penis and crack, or you can choose to leave some hair on the public bone – some gentleman prefer to leave a triangle or everything still on to match their chest hair and just want to tidy up everything underneath.
How long does it take?
It varies from treatment to treatment from 10 minutes for brows and 40 minutes for the Boyzilian. Some like it fast, others like it slow and nurturing.
Waxing is a long lasting hair removal method, lasting between 3 and 6 weeks. When hair re-grows, it is finer and softer unlike shaving which results in rough stubble just days later. Waxing also works as a gentle exfoliant to remove dead cells, leaving skin smooth.
