In reality, there is nothing apeish about this watch, nor its price tag (they start at around £40,000), but it most certainly is a stunning piece of work (or werk as they would put it). URWERK began in 1995 when two brothers, Felix and Thomas Baumgartner and good friend Martin Frei, combined their talents to redesign the art of telling time. Their latest incarnation is the URWERK UR 202 model (pictured below) which uses telescopic minute hands operating through the middle of three orbiting and revolving hour satellites to display the time.

Inspired by the 17 century Campanus Night clock, they aimed to distil timekeeping to its very essence, to calm the perception of time by removing all extraneous indications and distractions. A veritable masterpiece. Below shows the working of the URWERK 103 model with the innovative satellite orbital system; the time is indicated by the hour on the satellites as they pass by the arc of the minutes.
