One of Europe’s leading van and car rental firms; Sixt, has sent over some interesting survey results from a poll they carried out on the legendary ‘white van man’. The essence of the survey shows the stereotypical white van man of aggressive, scruffy clothes and beer belly infamy is changing. Polite, conscious and healthy-aware are new words being bandied around.
Over 2000 men were surveyed and the results are as follows:
- Only 1 in 10 say they get hot–tempered behind the wheel.
- Only 8% admitted to ‘ragging’ their vans around.
- Only 1 in 20 admit to wolf whistling or beeping the horn at an attractive women.
- However, 1 in 6 admitted to continually beeping the horn when stuck in traffic and 1 in 7 still have a penchant for swearing at other motorists.
- 61% of van drivers say they try to eat healthily on the road. Burgers are out, salads are in.
- Concerned about weight, 21% report that they keep a healthy snack in the van just in case they get peckish.
Perhaps most importantly, the ‘white van man’ is embracing is metrosexual side Sixt reporting that they’re more likely to see face creams left in the glove box, rather than sweet wrappers. The poll also revealed that a fifth (21%) use moisturiser and 1 in 10 (10%) keep a lip balm in the van.
1 in 8 (13%) make sure they keep a spare bottle of aftershave in the van, whilst nearly a fifth (18%) carry a can of deodorant.
Identifying a ‘white van man’ on the streets is also proving tricky with 1 in 6 (12%) admitting to taking more pride in their appearance and wearing a shirt and tie whilst driving.
