With a busy summer of sport ahead there has been a rush of ‘Sport’ fragrances entering the men’s grooming-sphere; essentially fresher, lighter and zestier versions of popular men’s fragrances. They are not always a success – revising something that is already popular is a dangerous game, think Coca-Cola. Some do work though and the best four can be found below:
Boss Bottled Sport by Hugo Boss
With Jenson Button an avid Boss Bottled Sport wearer, it has a strong sporting ambassador. The more ‘energetic’ version of the ever-popular Boss Bottled features citrus top notes combined with clean, fresh heart notes over an aromatic, woody base. It stays true to its Boss Bottled roots, merging in seamlessly those ‘summer notes’.

Polo Blue Sport by Ralph Lauren
The original Polo Sport was an excellent fragrance and already (correctly) you might say, a sport fragrance. Ralph Lauren has a long history of sporting support so they are forgiven. Playing on a nautical theme Polo Blue Sport, an aromatic citrus fragrance stays true to its Polo Sport roots well but successfully bares lighter mid and top notes with Frosted Mint and Mandarin amongst others.

Armani Code Sport Athlete by Giorgio Armani
Armani Code Sport Athlete is inspired by the London 2012 Olympics, with Giorgio Armani himself designing the outfits of the Italian Olympic team. Unsurprisingly the bottle is sleek and stylish, with Athlete being distinguished from regular Sport Code only by a subtle blue tint. Citrus fruits of the Mediterranean are the inspiration here, with bergamot and tangerine. A spicy middle of ginger and pink peppercorns is teamed with a woody base.

Givenchy Play Sport by Givenchy
Givenchy Play was launched in 2008, and has remained popular since. The Play signature Amyris wood remains present throughout but Play Sport has an extra fresh kick with the presence of bergamot, mint and ginger. The face of the campaign is Justin Timberlake, noted for his energetic personality. The bottle again is worth a mention, iPod-esque in appearance and arguably the most sporty of all in terms of feel and size.
