Paul Smith x Fullcount Denim

Paul Smith reaffirms his strong ties to Japan by partnering with Japanese denim specialists, FULLCOUNT, to produce a capsule collection of authentic selvedge denim.

As one of the famed “Osaka 5”, FULLCOUNT became known during the ‘90s for producing authentic selvedge denim on vintage shuttle looms. Their reputation was further enhanced by pioneered the use of long staple Zimbabwean cotton, which gave their denim a soft feel matched with a durable finish. Staying true to the aesthetic of FULLCOUNT, each product in the collection has been deigned to capture the authentic feel of 1950s denim.

The standout piece in the collection is the raw denim jacket, which has been constructed with 17 different stitch patterns and varying stitch colours – a signature of FULLCOUNT production. Made from 13.7oz Japanese unwashed selvedge dyed with natural indigo for a rich colour throughout, the denim used for these jeans has been woven on vintage shuttle looms. Worn over time, the jeans will of course develop a distinct patina unique to the wearer. The collection also includes 3 fits of raw jeans, a washed denim shirt and a graphic T-shirt.

As a special feature, each pair of jeans comes in a specially produced dust bag with 1950-style branding. The 3 jean fits come in one standard leg length, which can then be tailored to your personal fit, free of charge, at any Paul Smith shop.

Honouring the craftsmanship of Japanese denim, the jacket, jeans and shirt have all been entirely assembled by hand.
