This Simple 3-Step Grooming Routine Will Transform Your Skin
As his millions of followers will already know, Alex Costa, the lifestyle content creator and YouTuber, has just U-Hauled his entire life to set up home in New York City after a decade of living in Los Angeles. Of course, space is at a premium in Manhattan, so his new pad is still enviously cool, if a little more compact. The jaw-dropping views of the historic skyline, with landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge and One World Trade Center, surely make up for the lack of a home gym.
The move coincides with the launch of his brand new men’s grooming line, Apricus Skincare.
Having tried and tested so many skincare products over the years, Costa was aware that with so much choice out there, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Casting a glance at the small mountain of new products we’ve been sent to review this month, we can definitely relate.
Costa felt there was a gap in the market to create a simple and affordable starter kit that would give great results while being quick and easy to use. With the help of renowned cosmetic scientists in Vancouver and California, plus contributions from Costa’s community of followers on what they needed and wanted from a skincare range, it’s taken two years to create the line.
The name Apricus comes from the Latin word which means sunny, or filled with brightness – the idea being that this complexion clearing trio of products will give your skin a brightening boost. In-keeping with the no-nonsense approach, the packaging has a minimal, monochrome look. Costa has called his three-step routine the Proficiency Series, so let’s take a look at the core products.
Step 1. The Face Wash
The Face Wash should be used twice daily: morning and night. Gentle on the skin, the formula contains natural ingredients such as soothing aloe to nourish and protect the skin, hydrating jojoba oil and cucumber to help reduce puffiness.
You only need to use a small amount, massage into wet skin and rinse clean away. Due to the natural oils in the formula, it won’t strip the skin, leaving it soft, smooth and supple. All the products in the range have an invigorating peppermint scent.
Step 2. The Exfoliating Scrub
To speed up cell turnover and reveal fresher, brighter skin underneath, the Apricus range includes an Exfoliating Scrub. While some scrubs can feel gritty and sharp, this strikes the perfect balance with fine pumice beads that work to gently remove dead skin cells and impurities from the surface of the skin. Almond oil reduces redness and inflammation and soy bean oil, rich in vitamin E, helps the skin retain moisture.
Use your fingertip to scoop out a small amount and massage into wet skin. Regular exfoliation has many benefits including unclogging pores, preventing break outs and razor bumps, if used as a pre-shave treatment.
The scrub is designed to be used every other day. Everyone’s skin is different, so it’s up to you how often you exfoliate – we think twice a week is ideal.
Step 3. The Moisturiser
To be used each morning and night, this cooling, lightweight Moisturiser has a long-lasting formula that keeps skin feeling hydrated throughout the day. Using top ingredients such as avocado oil to moisturise and protect the skin barrier, anti-oxidant rich green tea to diminish the signs of ageing and reduce fine lines, and vitamin C to give the skin a brighter, clearer tone.
