Italian menswear brand Canali’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection is dedicated to the art of covert craftsmanship, using deconstructed design in order to create sophisticated silhouettes.
The outerwear in the collection is at times purposefully oversized, taking inspiration from the coats of the 1960s, while the suits are tailored to follow the natural contours of the body, stripping back excess in favor of a more simple yet strong aesthetic.
The focus at all times falls on fabrics: cashmere is used throughout the collection in prestigious “double” constructed pieces and in luxurious blends with wool, silk, vicuña and even chinchilla.
Many of the fabrics also feature distinctive textures, from a micro bouclé yarn to an ultra-soft baby alpaca velour. Luxurious finishes, such as a sable-effect on a pure cashmere field jacket, can be found throughout.
Quintessential menswear motifs like Prince of Wales check, madras, herringbone and birds eye are at times overlapped or rotated, giving off a classic but contemporary feel.
Jacquards and other intricate weaves are used to create optical patterns and dynamic mixtures of rich, saturated colors within a palette that flows smoothly between illustrious purples, natural browns and a grayscale that goes from white to black.
Canali has over 80 years of experience, making quality suits for men that require style since 1934. The brand has since expanded to specialise in both formal and casual menswear, but retains its original quality, with all of items still being made in their home of Italy.
