European Football Kits 2015-16

Across the footballing world, the top teams are unveiling their new apparel ready for the 2015-16 season. Here Ape to Gentleman take a look at some of the best home kits Europe has to offer.

Chelsea F.C.

The Chelsea F.C. shirt is inspired by several classic 1980s shirts- with white and red trims at the collar, sleeves, shorts and socks. The shirt also includes a finger print woven onto a label on each shirt. It includes the latest adidas performance technologies such as climacool ventilation technology designed to help keep the body cool and dry through breathable materials, fabrics and special stitching which provides greater freedom of movement and comfort without sacrificing flexibility and resilience.

Arsenal F.C.

The gunners have stuck to their guns (pun intended) with a trademark red and white kit. This time however they’ve switched it up with by adding a little more white to the sides of the chest and the bottom corners. The sleeves also stay much the same, but with a narrow red line shooting down the middle. Puma have also added their logo above said lines. Whilst last seasons was skin tight, it appears as though they’ve gone one step further with early promotional shots showing players wearing the shirt like a second skin.

Manchester City F.C.

Nike have done a fine job of Manchester City’s iconic sky blue shirt with a contemporary, slim white polo neck collar finished with concealed buttons beneath the placket, a visual reference to Manchester’s take on casual wear- structured yet laid-back, and heavily influenced by the aesthetics synonymous with the city’s legendary music and fashion scenes.

Manchester United F.C.

Manchester United F.C. have moved from Nike to adidas after many years with the US brand. adidas have taken inspiration from classic three-stripe United kits from the 1980s. These iconic designs have been reengineered with a modern twist, taking familiar style features and combined them with the latest performance technologies to produce an innovative, modern classic. The new looks shirts include the latest in adidas lightweight and breathable technologies.

FC Barcelona

Spain’s other footballing titans have gone for a more radical approach and turned their iconic blue and burgundy stripes from portrait to landscape. The result is pretty striking and cool. They’ve opted for a simple v-neck and fit in a sharp yellow strip underneath the arms for good measure.

Real Madrid C.F.

Our first foray abroad is to the Spanish capital and to the biggest club in world football, very exciting! So, what have they got for us? Well, nothing much. Adidas have changed their trademark three stripes from black to silver and done away with the collar, but it works. Interestingly, they’ve put a little message on the inside of the neck for inspiration “Come on Madrid and nothing else.” Sounds better in Spanish.

A.S. Roma

The shirt is in classic A.S. Roma red and features a unique new crewneck collar with a small split at the front. This replicates the neckline on the iron chest armour worn by soldiers in the Roman army more than 2,000 years ago. A darker shade of red runs along the shoulder blades and sleeves in a single panel, further enhancing the players’ physical presence. Complementing the AS Roma red, the sleeves’ cuffs are in the club’s traditional yellow, which features stripes running down the shirt’s flanks.

FC Bayern Munich

Big changes in the FC Bayern Munich camp, their shirt will no longer feature two colours and is red all over. Last season’s blue stripes are no more.

F.C. Internazionale Milano

As in 1990-91, this season Inter Milan’s home kit features striking black and blue stripes that are offset on the back against the front to create an eye-catching and subtly abstract look. The shirt’s polo neck collar is in blue and black, again taking design cues from the kit worn by the triumphant 1990-91 team. There is a blue stripe on each of the shirt’s flanks, which continues down the sides of the home kit’s otherwise black shorts.

Paris Saint-Germain F.C.

The Paris Saint-Germain F.C. home shirt features a navy blue body with PSG’s instantly recognisable red sport stripe. The updated stripe- widened with white trim on either side- runs the full length of the shirt, down the centre from a new, clean crewneck collar. Dark blue shoulders and sleeves create a powerful and physically imposing look, with stripes in this colour running down each of the shirt’s flanks.
