David Gandy, a successful model, was featured for several years in the Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana campaigns and fashion shows.  The increase in his popularity and name recognition resulted in a broad portfolio of clients, magazine covers, editorial photo shoots, interviews and industry awards.

David then moved beyond modelling to design his own range of underwear and lounge-wear for Marks & Spencer. He began writing a blog for British Vogue and lifestyle articles for Telegraph Men. Gandy has participated in numerous charity projects and fundraisers, including launching “Blue Steel Appeal”, his own charity foundation.

What does your morning grooming regime consist of?

I don’t spend that much time on it, or on grooming in general. I can be up and out the door in 20 minutes. I use rose oil and a moisturiser like SK-II and I’ll spray Light Blue fragrance on me to wake myself up, and that’s it really.

You’ve worked with British and Italian brands, what is the relationship like between the two countries in terms of within the fashion industry and which leads in the style stakes?

I think you can draw parallels between the two. They both use tailoring and high quality, beautiful designs. But I think Italian brands tend to be very classic and elegant, focusing on soft silhouettes, whilst British brands are increasingly becoming known for being quite edgy and bold.

Where do you see fashion being in the next 5 years?

Well, I’m not a trend forecaster but the great thing about tailoring is that it is timeless. Men’s suiting and quality tailoring will always look good in any era, so I still see something like the three piece suit being fashionable in five years’ time.

Have you made any conscience lifestyle changes in the past couple of years to help maintain your appearance?

I think I’ve always been really aware of my health and fitness, so there are no major changes I’ve made in the past few years. Maintaining your appearance is all about lifestyle at the end of the day. Nutrition is important because if you watch what you put in your body, you’ll get the benefits from your skin, your hair and nails and everything else on the outside. And exercise is really important too, which is why I created my fitness app.

What is you weekly exercise regime?

I get to the gym four or five times a week, and usually in the evening as I’m not great in the mornings, though I think a workout in the morning can be really good to get it out of the way. I like high intensity and high impact workouts, so I do lots of circuits and sets.

Away from modelling, how do you relax? For example, any hidden gems to go on holiday to?

I went skiing this winter for the first time in four years, which was really fun. And now I’m recommending the Aeolian Islands because I’ve been a few times for the shooting of the Light Blue fragrance campaign and the ones I’ve been to have been so peaceful and beautiful, you can’t really go wrong with a holiday there.
