Biotherm Homme – a brief history
Biotherm Homme was essentially born over 3 billion years ago when the extremely gentle micro-flora; Thermal Plankton, the first form of life on our planet appeared. More recently, in the early 18th century a hot spring with unique healing mineral water was discovered under a Southern French Pyrenees mountain. Years later a sanitorium offering thermal treatments was replaced by a dermatological health station. Later, over 50 years ago a biologist working at the station discovered the excellent skin benefiting properties of Thermal Plankton, which thrives in mountain springs that are particularly rich in minerals. These excellent properties spawned an opportunity to create the first skin care line with Thermal Plankton. After around 20 years of research natural Pure Thermal Plankton was isolated and subsequently reproduced by bio-fermentation to obtain an even more active and concentrated form. In 1952 intellectual property rights were acquired and Biotherm (‘Bio’logist and ‘Therm’al Plankton) was born.
Today, Biotherm offers a complete range of skincare for the face and body for all skin types. In addition, Biotherm offers a range of targeted skincare solutions to address more specific needs such as ageing, acne-prone skin, and eye area concerns. Biotherm was acquired by L’Oréal in 1970. It is developed and manufactured in research laboratories in Monaco, under the guidance of biologist Lucien Aubert.
In 1985 Biotherm introduced Biotherm Homme – a full line of skin and body care made for men formulated specifically for mens skin. The Biotherm Homme range includes basic skincare for face and body as well as more skin-concern specific products. Biotherm Homme continues to today, releasing new and innovative products with a focus on young, urban and physically active men. High levels of Thermal Plankton can still be found in every Biotherm Homme product, such as the popular Biotherm Homme Aquapower Moisturiser.
