Columbia OutDry Extreme

With summer-showers forecast, the timely arrival of Columbia Sportswear’s new rainwear technology- OutDry Extreme, was welcome. The ‘invention’ is a completely new way to make waterproof breathable rain jackets.

Columbia are the top selling rain jackets by volume in the US by a significant margin- owning 33% of the total market.

OutDry Extreme is the first waterproof ultra-breathable jacket with a waterproof membrane on the outside of the jacket for permanent water repellency and durability. By putting an abrasion-resistant membrane on the outside where it’s in contact with the rain, there is virtually no risk of the jacket “wetting out” like others do when their DWR (Durable Water Repellent) wears off.

The new technology means OutDry Extreme is ultra-breathable thanks to microscopic perforations in the membrane that allows moisture to escape while keeping rain at bay. The interior lining is a wicking textile that enables breathability and next-to-skin comfort, as opposed to a plastic feel next to skin. The seam tape is also on the exterior to ensure an uncompromised seal and offer a sharp signature aesthetic across the entire collection.

Columbia OutDry Extreme technology arrives in stores early in Spring of 2016, it will be available in 19 styles of jackets and trousers for men in several colours, priced from $150 to $400.
