Gieves & Hawkes – Autumn/Winter 2017 Collection

Inspired by the style of the British rock aristocracy and the character of London’s 1970s recording scene, Gieves & Hawkes has released its Autumn/Winter collection for 2017.

It draws influence from a golden era for the location of the brand’s headquarters, Savile Row, when musicians, artists and aristocrats alike enjoyed close personal relationships with their tailors.

Signature ‘70s cuts and colours are given refined contemporary treatment, with casualwear and outerwear very much in focus. Blousons in cognac suede or tobacco corduroy are paired with cashmere and fine merino knitwear, while for something more formal, sharp tailored overcoats are cut with generous revere collars.

The colour palette throughout is rich and warm; chocolate, biscuit and saffron are accented with ruby red, deep shades of blue and charcoal – inspired in part by the patterns of retro Persian rugs.

Modern tailoring for both business and pleasure is integral to the collection, with three- piece suits designed in textured cloths that transition smoothly from day to night.

The cut has been subtly refined for a contemporary English feel, with perfectly proportioned square lapels, clean roped shoulders and a smooth waisted silhouette.

These clothes take centre stage for the new season campaign, shot at Goodwood house and racing circuit in order to channel aristocratic composure and emphasise the key qualities of the brand.
