Last week, Ape to Gentleman were in the city that never sleeps- New York. A place known for its overwhelming competitiveness, much like the emerging trend for ‘different’ socks. A cautious, understated style can be offset by a pair of uniquely designed – a splash of colour to give personality to an outfit.
Whilst in the Big Apple, we discovered Jimmy Lion- a startup that ́s making some noise in the business of socks. Based in New York, each design is inspired by the colours and vibrancy of the city. The designs are original, colourful and fun, but maintain a certain elegance and a premium quality.
The story begins with Felipe Cortina and Alvaro Gomis who moved from Madrid to New York to get their MBA ́s at NYU ́s Stern School of Business, and founded Jimmy Lion in May 2014.
“Socks are a mysterious garment: you usually notice them when you see somebody walking, crossing a leg, or riding a bike. It’s the new tie.” explain their founders.
With quality as a focus, the socks are made in Europe from soft, combed cotton, with extra attention paid to the cuff strength and the toe seaming process, providing a seamless finish with a hand-linked toe for comfort.
