We’ve seen a few fashion brands launching active or tech(nology) wear in recent months. With Spring/ Summer collections launching all around us, it makes sense. Couple this with the rise of active commuters, and in truth- more of a requirement for comfort as well as style, and it makes even more sense. Ape were contacted by preppy US brand GANT to trial its latest collection; Tech Prep Shirts by GANT. Designed to support an active lifestyle; be it running to your airport gate, a desk-to-dinner dash, a high pressure meeting or your daily commute aboard the tube, bike or a brisk walk; GANT’s tech-wear offering is a strong option.
Made with a high-performing microfiberpolyester the shirts move sweat away from the body, to the fabrics’ surface where it evaporates. What you’ll notice immediately though is the breathability- each shirt is woven in such a way to allow air and body heat through the fabric to maintain an optimal core temperature. The fabric is also wicking which means it actively absorbs humidity from the skin and transports it to the outer surface of the shirt to release into the air.
We trialled the GANT Slim Fit Tech Prep™ Pique Jersey Shirt in navy- made from a cotton jersey with a sporty piqué structure, giving it the feel of a polo shirt but the look of a classic button-up. The shirt is of course made with Tech Prep making it breathable, wicking and quick-drying. The aforementioned technical aspects of the shirt work exactly as GANT claim, but we also must say that this fitted shirt which features a button-down collar, pointed pocket on the chest, and GANT’s iconic box-pleat and locker loop, fit like a dream.
A brisk walk around a local village on a warm summers evening was no match for GANT’s tech- comfortable, stylish and a nice mix between smart and casual. We paired it with some GANT Rugger Hopsack Smarty Pants in navy and a pair of white Converse Jack Purcell Signature Canvas Sneakers to give the look a sporty edge.
In conclusion; a win from GANT… style, incredible comfort and a bullseye for the sweet-spot of smart casual wear, perfect for informal office wear and the dinner date after work. We can see these being worn on humid summer days in New York City and on the French Riviera with a pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses and some cool linen shorts.
