Boy, the new fragrance from Chanel named after Arthur Capel- the love of Coco Chanel’s life who by all accounts was a widely read intellectual man with a passion for politics, spiritualism, Western esotericism, the world of symbols, and Eastern culture, among countless other subjects. He was also a polo player and a dark, handsome gentleman with a penchant for moustaches and tailor-made tweed.
Owing to Capel’s influence over Coco and the House of Chanel, Boy Chanel has earned its place in the houses’ legendary fragrance collection known as Les Exclusifs de Chanel. Boy is a fougère- formed by traditionally blending lavender with geranium, coumarin and moss designed to conjure up images of a clean shave and virility. In a similar vein however, it is a unisex fragrance and rather uniquely has been designed to be, “the mark of a man on the skin of a woman” with rose geranium.
Top notes include the lively energy of lemon and grapefruit zest, and the scent of lavender followed by an aromatic burst of rose geranium at the heart with vapours of lemongrass and mint. And at the base we have sandalwood, almondy heliotropin and coumarin, with a hint of vanilla and cottony musk accords. Boy Chanel is housed in a streamlined glass block with a monogrammed, magnetised cap that consistently realigns with the label.
The Eau de Parfum is available in two sizes; 200ml (£230) and 75ml (£130) exclusively at Chanel at Covent Garden, Chanel at Burlington Arcade, Chanel Boutiques, House of Fraser Glasgow and Bluewater, Fenwicks Newcastle, Selfridges Manchester Exchange, Birmingham and Selfridges W1 from 17th June 2016.
