Brandy, traditionally a drink of the older demographic, is fast becoming a popular option for the younger generation. The cause of this excitement for consumers is new and innovative brand flavours. With an increasing demand for sweeter flavourings, in particularly honey – the market has been taken by storm with a new age of brandy drinkers.
Our tipple of choice is Three Barrels Honey (a 30% ABV spirit drink), a fine blend of VSOP with a sweet flavouring courtesy of natural honey essence. Created and owned by William Grant & Sons, who also have a portfolio which boasts Glendfiddich (the world’s most credited single malt scotch whiskey), The Balvenie, Grant’s, Hendrick’s Gin, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and Tullamore D.E.W Irish Whiskey.
There is an increasing number of experimental flavours entering the market, of which honey is the stand out favourite right now. We do look forward to sampling more flavours, but for now we shall enjoy our bottle of Three Barrels Honey, housed in a delightfully designed gold and orange honeycomb exterior.
The taste of Three Barrels may not be to the taste of traditional brandy drinkers, but for the younger generation and for those willing to embrace change – we really rated it. The taste was smooth, overwhelmingly brandy-like but with a subtle sweet hint of honey – a pleasing sweetness. We prefer to drink it neat but you may choose to enjoy it ‘on the rocks’ or for a refreshing hit, add a splash of lemonade and serve chilled.
All in all, a successful creation from an addition to the William Grant & Sons stable. This could well be a new classic in the world of brandy.
