Guerlain, the French perfume, cosmetics and skincare house founded in 1828 might not be at the forefront of your mind when selecting a fragrance but there’s a reason Monsieur Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain’s creation has survived over 188 years- it knows perfume.
This story starts with Guerlain L’Homme Idéal- a popular, wood-aromatic fragrance for men, launched in 2014. And for 2017 Guerlain have ‘freshened’ it up- yes, it added ‘Sport’ to the end, a typical way for fragrance houses to increase the lifespan of a well received traditional offering. The only difference; Guerlain, as history shows, know what they are doing- and have produced a rather delightful summer scent known as Guerlain L’Homme Idéal Sport.
Guerlain L’Homme Idéal Sport is an eau de toilette created by Thierry Wasser, Guerlain’s Master Perfumer, and Delphine Jelk, Guerlain Perfumer. The original with an identifiable almond note has been given a boost of vitality, energising it with fresh spices and a wave of aquatic notes. There is also a hint of Neroli essence at the heart. At the base, a winning trio of coumarin, vetiver and patchouli brings it down to earth and levels out the freshness to reveal a light and fresh yet masculine affair.
Square shoulders and a solid guilloché cap, the bottle has an athletic air about it, underscored by a deep blue lacquer. The label’s red trim, we are told, was designed to evoke thoughts of a smart casual sports shirt, for post game smart causal wear.
