Why you should invest in Rise Art

Photography by Ape to Gentleman

Ape to Gentleman is all about style, quality and value- which, when combined should create an emotional connection to a product. Be it a new Canali suit, a Bottega Veneta wallet or a Parmigiani Fleurier watch. Products than mean something, that last and above all products you love and treasure everyday. It’s the same with artwork. For those of you who aren’t converted- then we recommend a visit to riseart.com – one of the easiest, most flexible and most rewarding places to find, buy or rent expert-selected contemporary art online.

Rise Art hand select pieces of artwork- they’re curators which means they use their expertise to find great art and great artists. And crucially because they’re focused on value or price, you’ll find art to suit a range of budgets. It’s not an online shop for anybody to sell their stuff- you’re buying serious art, safe in the knowledge that whatever takes your fancy is online because it’s passed an experts eye of approval too. They’ll even frame your piece in black, walnut or white and ship it to you directly. The key to being converted is to take a look around riseart.com – you’ll be sold, emotionally, instantly. I chose Within Reach by Magdalena Morey – an abstract landscape painted using acrylics, watercolours, pastels and gold leaf on canvas.

The Rise Art Insider Adriana Marques said of Within Reach, “The use of gold leaf, acrylic and watercolours creates an unpredictable texture and luminosity in these sublime abstracts. The consistent colour palette creates a wider story weaving through Magdalena’s work, hinting at nature and bodies from another world.” And as well as enjoying the painting visually, it were Magdalena’s words which deepened my affection for this piece, “This piece represents finding a way to represent those moments when inspiration strikes, the imagination flies and is in sync with our skills and abilities. In sport it’s called being in “The Zone” and in music it’s when the band is in “the groove”. For this artist it’s when time stands still and the colours flow. It doesn’t always happen, but as time passes, it feels like it’s always within reach.”

I even went to the lengths of emailing her directly to get more information about the why. Having her full story makes the piece even more special, and my emotional connection much stronger every time I see this handsome piece.

“Back in 2004 I met my husband-to-be whilst on holiday in Cambridge. His parents live in West Dorset and it quickly became one of my favourite places to paint in England. Every time we visit, I take hundreds of photos of the scenery, the sky and the sea; the continually changing light and the damp clouds are incredibly inspiring to me (I’ve heard from my husband that the novelty wears off if you’re born and raised there, but for me, they are a continual source of inspiration!).

Central Spain (I don’t know if you know, but I live in Aranjuez, near Madrid) towards the end of summer is very hot, dusty and tiring, and over the past couple of months I’ve found myself to be bringing a more watery feel into my work, presumably as a subconscious reaction to the intense dry heat. Within Reach was the first of a series where I was transported back to the West Dorset coastline whilst I was painting; I was completely “in the zone” – one of those moments when my imagination, memories and painting all came together effortlessly and the painting just flowed.” –Magdalena Morey

At riseart.com you can search by medium- so paintings, collages, drawings, photography, prints and even sculptures. You can further refine by style- abstract, expressionistic, minimalistic, pop art, realistic or street art amongst others. And finally, by subject and price. Crucially however- once you’ve narrowed it down- you can email Rise Art for personalised advice. Or if you have no clue- email them for inspiration. I found Rebecca Gordon, Head Curator to be most helpful and super-enthusiastic.

In truth- I’d searched the website far and wide, really making sure my decision meant something to me personally. Rebecca even mentioned Magdalena’s work could rise in value owing to her unique talents. This wasn’t my main motivator however, it was the emotional connection I had with the piece, something that will be different for us all- see if you can find your connection, mine brings me great joy every time I see Within Reach.
