lululemon ABC Pant Franchise

Founded by Chip Wilson in Vancouver, Canada in 1998, you might be familiar with the lululemon brand. A yoga-inspired, technical athletic clothing company for men and women, its been on our radar for some time but only recently were we offered the opportunity to try their ABC Pants.

lululemon is an interesting brand, with its design studio by day and yoga studio by night becoming its first standalone store in November of 2000 on West 4th Avenue in Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. The premise wasn’t to just make clothing to sell but do it with a broader scope- from a store where people could get gear to sweat in, at a community hub where people could learn and discuss the physical aspects of healthy living and mindfulness. Its what today we call a modern lifestyle brand.

Their first products were made for women to wear during yoga but they have grown into designs for increasingly popular (with men) yoga, running, cycling and training. Their most famed product is the aforementioned ABC Pant, which along with the rest of lululemon’s collection is built for versatility, comfort and functionally-driven performance.

Each style within the ABC franchise is constructed from lululemon’s lightweight and durable WarpstremeTM fabric, offering sweat-wicking, quick-drying and four-way stretch properties. The namesake of the design- ABC (anti-ball crushing)- stems from its construction that’s engineered to give the family jewels room to move. The expanded style range features different nuances in finer details and fit- such as the classic, slim, jogger, relaxed and cargo fit.

The quality is superb, it really is- ideal for yoga (we’d imagine) but also the gym, on a flight and or for those who like to bike to work. Beyond that, they are just a great pair of trousers for wearing casually- think smart joggers or toned down chino type wear. We tested the ABC Pant *Slim which has a slimmer silhouette, and is almost office appropriate with trouser detailing that transitions from work week to weekend. There’s a 5-pocket system (2 front with hidden coin pocket, 2 back + 1 secure side pocket). It sits at the hip, features a slim fit through the quads, and tapers from the knee to the hem. A really impressive offering and finally some comfortable yet smart athletic wear that you truly can wear beyond the gym. And yes, the ABC (anti-ball crushing) design works.
