Resteröds

Travelling to the CIFF show in Copenhagen is always great as it provides an opportunity to unearth, or stumble across brands that we might not have had a chance to see ordinarily, one of these, and one we’ve had our eye on for some time, is the effortlessly cool Resteröds menswear brand from Sweden.

Traditionally a brand focused on undergarments ranging from boxers through to Long Johns and full-sleeve granddad tops, Resteröds has moved forward into a fuller collection of inspiring but easy-to-wear garments and the new Spring/Summer 2017 collection not only captures true heritage but also a twist of modernity.

Fine linen and cotton fabrics in staple colour-ways have been utilised across versatile shirting and pants, featuring a high-waisted play on the workman style synonymous with the brand, with additional shorts that partner the style. The pulse of tradition remains with some playful twists including string-style vest and a very cool fleece-inspired jacket.

The Resteröds brand began more than 80 years ago in 1935 when two brothers from the small village of Resteröd, lying north of Gothenburg, invested all of their savings into two knitting machines from a UK manufacturer. The Matsson brothers went on to design underwear for both men and women including long underpants and linen from a shed in their back yard that operated as their first ever factory.

Growing in popularity due to their unquestionable craftsmanship and quality of product, the brothers needed to expand. Bigger and better knitting machinery was acquired and the production moved to the nearby rural town of Ljungskile.

Since 1935 the classic collection has remained untouched and today, Resteröds Trikåfabrik presents this new SS17 original collection, inspired by a rich heritage and developed through soul and experience.
