How Villeroy & Boch Are Making Bathrooms Stylish
Estimates vary, but most statistics state that men will, on average, spend somewhere between one and two years of their lives in their bathroom. It’s a surprisingly considerable amount of time, as well as a period of each day, week, year, and lifetime that is all too often overlooked.
If the time a man spends in his bathroom makes up such a portion of his existence, why do we collectively pay so little comparative attention to this area of a home – can a bathroom not be a statement of style as well as function? That’s where Villeroy & Boch come in.
The family business, which was founded in 1748 and is headquartered in Mettlach, Germany, stands for innovation, tradition, and most significantly in this context, style. An innovative brand with a 260-year history, the company is active in 125 countries, and specialises in ceramic bathroom collections with a range of designs, as well as high-class bathroom furniture, fittings and accessories.
Basing their collections on four style worlds – Country, Easy, Classic and Metropolitan, Villeroy & Boch products can be identified by one of three themes: classical elegance, the beauty of nature, or urban design.
The Crystals Edition Collection, for instance, is a bathroom collection designed in collaboration with international designer Steve Leung. Decorated by hand in over 6,000 Swarovski Xirius Rose crystals upholstered into brunette leather, an extravagant and lavish aesthetic is the clear result. 5,000 Swarovski crystals arranged on the bath panel and more than 1,000 on the washbasin recreate mountain contours and water silhouettes, in a meeting between the luxury of the crystals and the function of the bathroom products.
The Finion Collection made alongside product designer, Patrick Frey, on the other hand, is a 20-peice collection consisting of ceramics, furniture, and lighting to create an atmosphere of relaxation and calm. It’s also the first full bathroom collection to be created using TitanCeram – Villeroy & Boch’s own ceramic material, and collections can be mixed and matched to create a bathroom to suit a style of the individual.
Therefore, our original question can be answered: the bathroom can not only be an area centred on personal hygiene, but also on personal style and wellbeing, marked with unique designs and standout aesthetics.
