A Better Bedroom: Homesense by Ape

In partnership with Homesense

For those of you not familiar with Homesense, it’s a homeware store and part of the TK Maxx family. The premise is homeware with savings of up to 60% off the RRP, 100s of brands, unique finds and everyday home essentials. Homesense boast an ever-changing range of branded and quality homeware and gifts at significantly lower prices than the high street. With 50 stores all over the UK, it’s a pop in for a lamp and leave with a one-of-a-kind chair type of get up.

Ape to Gentleman were given a £150 voucher and tasked with upgrading one room of the house. We chose the bedroom- that personal space where you retreat to recharge, reinvigorate the mind and relax. Our style is minimalist and on our shopping list- a bedside table, new bedding, towels and a modern lamp for catching up on Flipboard before sleep.

The first thing you’ll notice about a Homesense store- it’s different from other homeware retailers- there are no promotions or sales, just branded homeware and most notably- one-off gems. Don’t expect the same lamp in a variety of colours and twenty of the same ‘in the back’, there’s only one, which generates that “thrill of the find” feeling, unearthing something unique.

Homesense buy throughout the year, with buyers always on the hunt for unique finds and eclectic homeware- from cookware and gourmet food, furniture and lighting to decorative items, wall art, bedding and bathroom accessories as well as toys and seasonal décor meaning there is new stock arriving in stores throughout the week. A word on quality, expect a high level, examples include beautiful cut glass from Poland, merino wool throws from Italy and handcrafted furniture from Indonesia.

Not quite so obvious but we’ve since learned that Homesense has long been a top location in the little black books and roller decks of some of the top home stylists and glossy magazine editors in the UK.

As before, our shopping list consisted of a bedside table (£69.99), new bedding (£34.99), towels (£12.98) and a modern lamp (£29.99) for a bedroom, and we weren’t disappointed. As you can see from our images, we found everything we were looking for. A seriously cool bedside cabinet which was probably our favourite piece which had 60% off the RRP, some fine cotton bed linen which is stunning quality and again had 60% off the RRP. The linen is made by a well known designer, which appears to be a theme at Homesense- designer labels are everywhere. Our shopping basket totalled around £170, which was excellent value considering the size and quality of our haul- some real statement pieces for the bedroom. All in all, a positive experience- and we look forward to unearthing more finds on our next trip to Homesense.
