With most gentleman living in the Northern Hemisphere experiencing some warmer weather right now, it’s time to consider some minor tweaks to your skincare routine. Shifts in climate and sun levels are worthy of amending which products you apply to your face each morning, delivering some subtle but most-welcome results in terms of your appearance.

Time-friendly Grooming

As sunrise becomes earlier, and sunset later, there’s plenty more to do in the morning and evening. An early bike ride or pre-work gym session for example, but least of all- spending more time than necessary in the bathroom either in the morning or at night. A shower is naturally advisable, but beyond that- we recommend going back to basics by cleansing and then applying an SPF moisturiser to keep your skin protected from the sun’s harmful rays throughout the day.

Shower and shave convenience: Molton Brown 4-in-1 Sportswash £16– ideal for busy types being the perfect all-rounder men’s grooming product to slip into a gym bag when you don’t have much time to spare or in the morning when one body care products covers all. Made with refreshing cassia bark and zesty lime (to refresh and deodorise), an ultra-shine complex for hair, skin conditioners and guar gum to help soften stubble for a closer shave. Use on the body, face, hair and for shaving.

Vital cleansing: Zirh Clean £15.50– an invigorating face cleanser made with Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Acids which remove dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells for a super-clean feel.

SPF moisturiser wins: Anthony Oil Free Facial Lotion SPF 30, £33– all four of the Anthony moisturisers are great but the oil free version with SPF is perfect for spring because it hydrates skin without any oily residue alongside broad spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 which protects against sun damage. This lightweight, non-greasy formula absorbs quickly and is ideal for normal to oily skin types.

Renew your complexion

With skin renewing itself around every twenty-eight days it’s important to add either a scrub or face mask into your routine. For spring we suggest the application of a good quality detoxifying face mask to rid dry, dehydrated winter skin and to kick start your spring/ summer complexion. Follow twice weekly with a facial scrub to maintain a healthy, fresh look. The mask can be used as and when you need a re-invigorating boost; most likely the morning after spending too long in a beer garden.

Conquer shine

Warm weather and heat can result in shiny and oily skin, especially for those who suffer with oily or combination skin. To avoid spots and control this excess oil production we suggest using a toner to remove any excess oil, cleanser residue and even dirt or dust.

Tone oily skin: Aesop Bitter Orange Astringent Toner £23– a refreshing toner for most skin types but particularly oily or blemish-prone. Eat seasonally

Eating seasonal greens is always advisable, at whatever time of year; likely to be fresh (and not frozen), they will be packed full of skin-benefitting nutrients. Spring vegetables for instance are rich in vitamin K, iron, and phytonutrients that help fend off wrinkles and chronic diseases, resulting in better skin clarity.

Asparagus is the main winner here, rich in ‘master antioxidant’ glutathione, which helps fight ageing. Arugula, fava beans, lettuce, scallions, spinach, radishes and artichokes (along with plenty of water) are all wise additions to your diet during spring too.
